From Alaska Sportsman’s Lodge
Get a glimpse of what a day on Morraine Creek in Katmai National Park is like – fishing for trout and watching the amazing brown bears. We use small inflatable rafts to navigate the river and access various fishing spots. This particular fishery plays host to every size class of Rainbow Trout up to 28-inches. There is also a healthy population of Arctic Grayling. As the sockeye salmon move into the system, the trout follow. During certain months of the summer, this area plays host to a great number of Alaska brown bears who are feeding on the annual salmon run. Regardless of the excellent trout fishing, a trip to the Morraine is an amazing opportunity to watch the bears of Katmai in a natural setting (at a safe distance). You can watch sows fish and teach their cubs. You can see large brown bears “snorkeling”, looking for their next salmon meal. It’s a wonderful fly out day opportunity at Alaska Sportsman’s Lodge.
